Accessibility

York Together aims to be as accessible as possible, and we're currently on a learning journey and we're keen to achieve highest standard possible in this area of our work. Whether it's online or in-person, we want to make sure we meet the needs of absolutely everyone.

The training

To help us learn more, we asked Content Design London (CDL) to train us in what accessible content really looks like online.

In November 2024 (along with other York organisations) we sat down for a half-day session with CDL, and it was an eye-opener! There are so many things we were missing which would allow us to cater to everyone equally.

Community of Practice

We've now started an Accessible Content Community of Practice with other like-minded individuals across York, and we'll continue to meet, support each other and share ideas. Email us if you'd like to join in!

The guidance and standards

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) develops standards and guidelines to help everyone build content based on the principles of accessibility, internationalisation, privacy and security

There are now legal standards set up around the work of this organisation which sets a standard for how content should appear online to be classed as 'accessible'.
