We believe that we are stronger when we are connected to one another. But meaningful connection doesn’t happen by accident. It takes care, time, the willingness to show up for each other and practice.
Internally at York Together, we think carefully about how we work together, show up for one another at times of need as well as moments of celebration.
Our hope is to create spaces (both in person and online) where community between organisers, groups and activists in the city can be nurtured. Where opportunities for collaboration and cooperation are found and acted upon and mutual aid and support is given.

If you’re curious about what these spaces look like, we invite you to read more about our gatherings.

Why is connection so important right now?

Human connection has been lost in recent years because we now have fewer places to gather and much of our socialising is done online.

'Third spaces' such as cafes, libraries, pubs, parks, youth clubs, faith spaces, and community venues are slowly dwindling, and these are the places that have been keeping community spirit alive. As a result, life has become more isolated, there's no socialising without spending, and community organising has become harder. The rise in use and popularity of social media has made it even easier to avoid real, in-person connections.

What’s been lost isn’t just space; it’s the everyday, ordinary interactions that build trust and allow collective impact to be possible.
