About Trans Pride

Hosted by York Pride, York Trans Pride offers a platform where trans voices are heard, celebrated, and supported. It is more than simply an event, it’s a space for togetherness, visibility, and pride in all its forms. The York Trans Pride Steering Group is now looking for the next chair person to help them fulfil their responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation.

About the role

The role of the Chair is to provide leadership and direction to the Steering Group, enabling them to fulfil their responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation.

The overall responsibilities of the Chair include:

  • Providing leadership to the Steering Group in understanding and executing their role

  •  Planning, chairing, and facilitating Steering Group meetings to set the agendas and plan the annual cycle of meetings

  •  Working with the Steering Group members to ensure that there is a common understanding of the vision, mission, strategic objectives and strategic priorities by the Steering Group, volunteers and other key stakeholders

  •  Ensuring the flow of information to the Steering Group is effective and appropriate and that decisions that are taken at meetings are implemented

  • Acting as an ambassador, representative or spokesperson for the organisation at occasional events, meetings or functions

  •  Acting as the final stage adjudicator for disciplinary and grievance procedures if required.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone who:

  • is passionate about working with the TNBI community,

  • likes speaking to people

  • enjoys creating events that celebrate the community while challenging transphobia.

  • can organise activities and understand logistics and marketing.

  • understands how to balance different people's access needs.

  • Has lived experience as a TNBI person.

Key meetings

6-8 Steering Group meetings per year.

Locations

The steering group meets online. You might need to be in person in community spaces in York when we want to come together in person.

Length of term

Chairs serve a maximum of 2 x two year terms.

Support you will get

The steering group is made up of experienced activists and organisers from across the city, and they will support whoever becomes the chair.

Whoever becomes chair will also get 1-2-1 support from York Together.

So, if you have never been the chair of a Steering Group before, you will get support to help you step into the role. This might include, for example, how to develop an agenda, how to chair meetings, how to bring people together. York Together will work with you to think through what support would be helpful.

Please email yorktranspride@gmail.com by 31st August 2026 with:
