Our History

The creation of York Together came out of a piece of work by the York MCN Network (York MCN).

York MCN was previously funded by the Lankelly Chase Foundation, and a ‘York Portfolio Team’ within the foundation was there to support the Network around monetary decisions and budgets.

Towards the end of 2022 York MCN recognised the need for a functional group within York to replace the Portfolio Team, with the understanding that work would now reach beyond multiple complex needs and focus on other social injustice within the city.

The new group would:
-
make sense of all the activity going on across York
-
develop an overall budget for York using Lankelly Chase funding
-
process proposals from all York place-based activity
In early 2023 it was confirmed that Lankelly Chase would fund the whole of the York place-based ongoing work with a view to making it more sustainable and that this meant the previous Portfolio Team would now have to become independent.

From here, what was previously known as the York Portfolio Team became York Together.

Our founding members were all previously involved in the York Multiple Complex Needs Network at various stages. Through that experience, members were able to learn good governance practice, and the value of deep democracy and conflict resolution approaches. We have carried those learnings forward into York Together.
