Who we are

York Together is a group of like-minded individuals from across York who are all passionate about community empowerment and creating change.

Meet the York Together members group:

Abigail is one of York Together’s founding members. She cares passionately about social justice and having grown up in York and then moved away, she's committed to fighting the injustice and inequity she sees every day since moving back. She works at York Traveller’s Trust, supporting and advocating for the Gypsy and Traveller Communities in York.

Hilary is one of York Together’s founding members. She is a disability rights activist, academic, with expertise in social work and safeguarding. You may find her at local authority meetings asking the tricky questions.

Miles is one of York Together’s founding members. Through his work at Lived Insights and numerous local and national collective and committees, he has expertise particularly in areas of homelessness, mental health, addressing poverty, and working with the recovery community.

Mark is one of York Together’s founding members. He is a part of the recovery community in York and the CEO of  York in Recovery CIC. York in Recovery are members of (CLERO) the College of Lived Experience Recovery Organisations. He brings rich experience as a champion and a public speaker against stigma and its many harms. He also sits on the board of the UK arm of Inclusive Recovery Cities.

Other founding and recent members include Jan, Joe, Sian, Oliver and Catherine, who helped make YT what it is today.

In addition to our collective members, we have two employees who coordinate and facilitate York Together’s work,  Atoosa (Development Lead) and Emmie (Communications Lead).

Atoosa has worked in the legal and charity sectors for over 15 years, mainly on human rights and access to justice projects. She is maternity cover for this role until July 2024 and will be focusing on laying some of the groundwork for York Together, letting people know what we’re working on and making connections with changemakers in York.

Anjelica is the Development Lead for York Together. One of the main threads of Anjelica's career and volunteering has been working alongside communities and people who have been marginalised, disbelieved and discarded. Anjelica is committed to continuous learning around racial, social and economic justice and how to create a more equitable future for people and planet.

Emmie has experience that sits firmly within communications for the third sector, but she’s also had jobs in commercial marketing, corporate social responsibility. She is interested in finding new ways to tell stories and making communications as accessible as possible.
